Ashiq makes hat trick in Wular Sports’ 4-1 win

Star striker Ashiq Hussain today guided Wular Sports Sopore to an impressive 4-1 victory over New Bharat through his hat trick on way to the pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing 19th State Football Championship at University of Jammu ground, here.
Bringing in the first blood in the very second minute of the match, Ashiq added two more goals in the 23rd and 24th minute completing his hat trick thus providing Wular Sports an unbeatable 3-0 lead at the end of first half.
After the breather, New Bharat managed to reduce the margin in the 49th minute after Pankaj Rajesh made solo efforts. But the better side of Wular Sports added yet another goal to maintain the lead in the 64th minute through Mohd Shaif (Junior).
Two other teams of District Football Association (DFA) Baramulla and Young Star also made it into the pre-quarterfinals winning their matches in the afternoon session today.
Young Star blanked DFA Budgam 3-0. In the first half, the fighting Budgam boys did not allow the Young Star open the account but could not control their nerves after the breather resulting into an outright victory for Jammu boys.
However, after opening their account on a self goal by Budgam defender Showkat, Young Star never looked back and scored three goals in a span of 10 minutes. In a mille, Showkat attempted a header to divert the shoot on the goal mouth but he collided with the advancing goal-keeper, Shabir Hussain resulting into ball entering into the net.
Three minutes later, Vikas converted a cross ball from left plank right into the goal for the second goal. Sunil Masih scored the third goal taking a straight shoot in the 55th minute on a pass from Vikas.
In the third match of the day, DFA Baramulla outplayed International Club 2-0. Both the goals came in the first half through Aquib Sultan and Toufiq Ahmed in the 20th and 26th minute of the match respectively.
FIXTURE: Vijay Club to take on Wular Sports Sopore at 8 am; DFA Bandipore to meet Young Star at 9.30 am; Engineers Club to play against DFA Baramulla at 3 pm; J&K Forest Corporation to face Jammu Sports-A at 4.30 pm.
