| Praja Parishad may forge alliance with BSP dissidents | | | Early Times Reproter Jammu | Mar 18 Praja Parishad, led by Chander Mohan Sharma, has decided not to pursue its plan of forming an alliance with the state unit of the BSP after the latter announced to contest all the 87 Assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Instead the Praja Parishad leaders have initiated talks for the formation of an alliance with the dissidents from the BSP, headed by Dr Sat Pal. Parishad Chief, Chander Mohan Sharma, confirmed here today that Dr Sat Pal and his party colleagues have evinced interest in forging a pre-poll alliance. He said that “we have supported the idea of joining hands with Dr Sat Pal.” In reply to a question he said that “we had plans of supporting Ms Mayawati’s desire for repeating UP experiment in Jammu and Kashmir by securing support of upper castes.” He said “initially the General secretary of the BSP, Narender Kashyap, suggested to us to merge Praja Parishad with the BSP which we rejected and later decided to keep the doors open for negotiation. ”He said when the BSP announced its plan of fielding party candidates in all the 87 constituencies “we decided to explore the possibility of joining hands with the BSP faction headed by Dr Sat Pal.” Asked whether alliance with Dr Sat Pal will make any impact on the election scene Chander Mohan Sharma said “if not any one else the BSP unit headed by Yash Pal Bhagat,and the BJP would be hit hard.” He said that “if our talks with Dr Sat Pal fail we shall contest the election on our own.” |
