| Non-camp Pandit migrants seek ‘better deal’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 18 All Displaced non-camp welfare union has demanded setting up a survey team for assessing the losses suffered by the Kashmir migrants so that they could receive adequate compensation for their immovable assets destroyed or grabbed by militants and other vested interests. The chairman of the Union, D. N.Kissu, told media men here today that those migrants who were living in rented houses or have built small dwellings, after selling their property in Kashmir for a song, were facing serious hardships .He criticized the state and the central Governments for having shut their eyes on the difficulties being faced by non-camp migrants. Karan Choudhary, chief spokesperson of the union demanded that the Government should shortly formulate an employment package for Kashmiri Pandit youths because during the last 18 years of their exile a handful of the educated youth in the community was able to get recruitment in Government services. He and other leaders of the union demanded Government help in securing interest free bank loans for starting income generating industrial units. The union also made a strong plea for release of free ration for the retired Pandit employees who were facing difficulties in maintaining their family members on small pension amount. The union advisor Prof. G.L.Koul criticized the state Government for inordinate delay in the release reimbursement of medical aid in case of patients suffering from chronic diseases and other physical ailments. It wanted the Government to release medical aid in advance so that Pandit patients were speared of death because of lack of money to pay for treatment. Phoola Bhat, another union leader wanted the Government to adopt and implement the proposed temple bill so that ongoing encroachment of temple land and desecration of religious places were stopped. She also made a strong plea for treating displaced employees at par with other employees in the matter of payment of house rent allowance and other perks. |
