| HM Distt commander killed in South Kashmir | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Mar 18 Security forces claimed to have gunned down district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Dogripora area of Awantipora area of south Kashmir. The slain commander according to police was allegedly involved in killings of about four persons including the brother of a former minister. Police spokesman quoting Superintendent of Police Awantipora Sardar Khan, told News Agency of Kashmir that Police on specific information regarding the presence of district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen for Anantnag Chota Jehangir in Dogripora, Awantipora. Police along with the troops of 55 RR and 31 RR launched a joint operation and laid a cordon of the target cow shed of Abdul Hamid Bhat son of Gul Bhat around last midnight", the spokesman added. The cordon, he said, culminated in an encounter in which the Hizb Commander was killed. "The cow shed in which the militant had made the hide out was also damaged" the spokesman told NAK. Two AK rifles, one pistol, one grenade, two RPG rounds, 56 AK rounds, and three pistol rounds were recovered from the encounter site. The slain commander was very active in Anantnag district and was involved in killing of four persons including Mohd Akram Bhat, the brother of former Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri in Zerapora, Bijbehara in 2005, killing of Mohd Maqbool Reshi resident of Mahama, Killing of Gh Ahmed Ganai resident of Mahama in 2006 and killing of a female Shaheena in Panjpora in 2007, the spokesman referring SP Awantipora claimed. Besides this, the militant was also involved in two mine blast in Hamzapora and Panjpora in 2006 and firing on security forces in Panjpora. |
