Vijay Club, Forest XI qualify for QFs

Sailing on the superb hat trick by Toufiq, Forest XI today made it into the quarterfinals beating Jammu Sports-A 5-0 in the ongoing 19th State Football Championship organized by Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) at University of Jammu ground, here today.
Top club of Jammu, Vijay Club also qualified for the last eight stages after they blanked Wular Sports 4-0. Gourav Bhatti brought in the first blood hitting a header on a pass from Gurmeet Singh in the 4th minute. Remaining three goals were scored after the breather. Joginder Kumar (50th), Raman Kumar (53rd) and Gurmeet Singh (68th) were the scorers.
Earlier, J&K Forest XI hardly faced any resistance from Jammu Sports A and scored easy goals in second half of the match. The missing coordination cooped with a lose keeping on the net caused the Jammu Sports debacle.
Toufiq proved to be lethal in his attack, especially after the breather. He made hat trick scoring in the 42nd, 45th and 53rd minute of the match thereby becoming the second player to achieve this feat after Ashiq of Wular Sports Sopore in the state championship. Wasim and Shah Nawaz scored other two goals in the 65th and 68th minute.
In a second round match played in the afternoon session, Engineers XI blanked District Football Association (DFA) Baramulla 2-0. Tushar Gorang scored both the goals for Engineers in the 8th and 69th minute.
Fourth match of the day remained a close contest wherein Young Star emerged the winner beating DFA Bandipore 4-3 thus entered into the pre-quarterfinals stages. Sunil Masih 97th), Harneel singh (19th), Ranjay Kumar (29th) and Vinay (50th) were the scores from winners Young Star. Imtiyaz (29th), Tahir Maqbool (32nd) and Tariq (49th) scored for DFa Bandipore.
FIXTURE: QUARTERFINALS: J&K Forest XI to take on professional side of J&K Bank at 3 pm and Vijay Club to face Maharaja Sports Srinagar at 4.30 pm.
