| SWB organises women meet | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 19 State Social Welfare Board (SWB) organized a mega ‘Women Meet’ in collaboration with NGOs here at General Zoravar Singh auditorium, University of Jammu with twin objectives of bringing awakening and providing common platform to women to exhibit their talent. Minister for Rural Development Mr. Mula Ram, Minister for R&B Mr. Jugal Kishore, Chairman SWB Mr. G.M. Saroori, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University Prof. Amitab Mattoo, Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Rafiq Masoodi, Director School Education Mr. A. K. Raina and Managing Director WDC were present on the occasion. The three hour long programme included cultural bonanza by Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kavita-recital, skits and lectures by some prominent women leaders. A composite cultural programme in Kashmiri, Dogri and Punjabi highlighting rich ethos of traditional folk songs captivated the jam packed audience. An inspiring verse written by Prof. Rita Jindera melodiously sung by a tiny tot Amiksha Badiyal was highly appreciated by the audience. The verse focussing on necessity of girl education and complementary role of women in progress and prosperity of nation elevated the spirits of participants so high that the little girl received instant cash award of Rs. 5000 besides constant standing ovation from the audience. Detailing the broader objectives of this programme Mr. Saroori said that the Board has registered over 1000 NGOs for carrying out women empowerment activities in the state. These NGOs, he said were mainly focussing on informing women folk about welfare schemes of government aimed at making them economically independent. Mr. Saroori said that the Board has promoted women NGO culture in the state in a big way, adding government has enhanced its budget to Rs. 50 crore in recognition of its role in socio-economic transformation of women. Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Masoodi read out message of Mrs. Shamim Azad who could not participate in the programme for being indisposed. Besides Ministers, Vice-chancellor and Director Education Jammu addressed the women and highlighted their role in progress and development of nation. |
