| ‘Santoor Maestro’ to establish musical trust | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 19 To fulfill the dreams of his father Pt Uma Dutt Sharma, the eminent Santoor maestro and son of soil, Shiv Kumar Sharma is going to establish a trust in the memory of his father where the free training will be imparted to the students interested in Santoor. During an interaction with media, Shiv said that due to his father’s dedication and efforts the less known musical instrument of the state is today recognized all over the world and is one of the important instruments in classical music. He said, the instrument till 1955 was not familiar outside the state, and first time it was played at National Festival held at Bombay and after that instrument became famous within and outside the country. In number of Bollywood films it has now become an important instrument. He said, state government has failed to give any importance to the instrument. Meanwhile, Shiv was felicitated by Jammu Club today. Among others who were present on this occasion were journalists Manu Srivats, Suhail Kazmi and former, JMC Mayor, Narinder Singh Jamwal. |
