| Azad appreciates media for maintaining high standards of journalistic ethics | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Srinagar | August 27
Speaking on the occasion of Golden Jubilee function of Daily Aftab at SKICC, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has appreciated the role of local print media for maintaining high standards of journalistic ethics. He said that since his S. P. college days he was keen reader of Daily Aftab and has established personal association with its Chief Editor Khawaja Sonaullah Bhat after observing his high intellectual caliber. He said that he has always found rich content in famous column of aftab “Khazir Soochta Ha Wullar Key Kenaray” and even during his stay at New Delhi he has been reading this column and observing famous cartoon of Srinagar Times daily. Chief Minister said that the name of Aftab which means sun coinsides with the struggle of the newspaper made to reach to the present heights where it is today shining with full glitter. He said that no darkness can obstruct the piercing rays of shining sun and he hoped that the rays of intellect shall continue to provide light to the entire society. Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh in his speech while appreciating daily Aftab which is being published under the able guidance of Khawaja Sonaullah Bhat said that in the field of journalism the status of Khawaja is that of Darvesh who is serving the society for last 50 years. He reminded the silver Jubilee function organized 25 years before which was attended by him as well, where Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah symbolized Aftab with vision of Kashmiriyat and the real movement which was launched for the pride and honour of Kashmiris who gave sacrifices for upholding this pride and honour . Member Rajya Sabha and Ex-Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah while speaking on the occasion said that Khawaja Sonaullah Bhat has proved himself a courageous, honest person and a man without having any vested interests. He said that he has always appreciated healthy criticism of daily Aftab which speaks in volumes the commitment of the paper towards good of people and their interests. He said that history is witness during last two decades the Aftab has shown immense courage by resisting every type of abnormal pressure and thus maintained its credibility. On this occasion prominent personalities Chief Justice J&K High Court Justice B A Khan, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, Yaseen Malik, Editor-in-Chief Srinagar Times Sofi Ghulam Mohammad, Sr. Advocate Zafar Shah, MLA G. A. Kar, educationist Aga Ashraf, Advocate Shabnam Lone and prominent businessman Sadiq Bakal were also participated in the Golden Jubilee function of Daily Aftab. |
