| Upliftment of far-off areas top priority of government: Charak | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 20 Asserting that the governments top priority was to uplift far-flung areas of the state, Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak has said that much more was to be done for the development of these areas to make them at par with developed areas. Addressing at a public meeting at Kotali Samba Mr. Charak said that the road connectivity was the basic pillar for bringing overall development of the any particular area and added that all the habitations of the state would have road connectivity by 2009. He said for completion of this ambitious project Rs. 4500 crore would be spent during these years under Bharat Nirman Programme. Mr. Charak said besides providing better road connectivity to every nook and corner of the state, the government have taken landmark decisions for the upgradation of social sectors particularly education, health and Public Health Engineering. He said under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Health Mission, schools and health centres have been opened in every area of the state to provide education and health facilities at their door steps. Regarding the demands of locals, the Minister gave on spot direction to Deputy Commissioner Samba Mr. Sourav Bhagat to address their problems at the earliest and also to provide Rs. 10 lakh from constituency development fund for the upgradation of link roads of the village. For opening of the main road for civilians which was closed by the Army authorities some years back, the Minister assured them that he will take this matter with Army higher authorities for facilitating the people of area. The others who spoke on occasion include Mr. Shamsher Singh, Mr. Kamal Singh Corporators, S. Kulbir Singh and Miss Santosh Rani.
