Social Welfare Minister and Senior Vice President JKPCC Mr Abdul Gani Vakil has said that Congress president Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was keen to strengthen Congress party in Kashmir valley to consolidate the relationship and emotional attachment of Kashmiris with nation and Nehru family.
Addressing a public meeting at Y. K. Pora in Anantnag district today, the Minister said that statements indicating that Sonia ji was not interested in strengthening the party in valley was showing the level of frustration of her detractors in view of growing popularity of Azad led government in the state.
Mr. Vakil said that Mrs Sonia Gandhi true to her family traditions always visited the people of the state whenever they faced hardships. During earthquake, snow tsunami or incidents of innocent killings, she not only shared grief with the victims but also ensured their timely rehabilitation, he said adding these stark facts cannot be disputed by false propaganda.
The Minister said that Congress party has the distinction of speaking truth and providing clean politics. "We do not indulge in emotional black-mailing or false sloganeering to hoodwink people," he said and added that the party has been concentrating on bringing peace, development and stability in the state under the stewardship of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Mr.Vakil said that no regional party can claim credit to derive political mileage from opening trans LOC links like Jehlum Valley and Rawalakot-Poonch roads as these decisions were taken by Congress led UPA government. "As these decisions alongwith other CBMs were initiated under the Prime Ministership of Dr. Manmohan Singh and other centre leaders in tune with people's yearning of the state, Congress can genuinely claim credit", he added.
The Minister said that government was serious to tackle unemployment in the state. He said over 20,000 youth would be appointed as class IV and casual labourers within three months in different departments through innovative fast-track recruitment mechanism.
Mr.Vakil said that the government would streamline procedure for granting pension to old-aged, widows, orphans and handicapped. Under the new rules only BPL and ration cards would be required to be produced by the beneficiaries for obtaining financial assistance, he added.
Among others, Vice President State PCC Mr. Bashir Ahmad Magray, Youth Congress President Mr. Mohammad Amin Bhat and General Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Jan spoke on the occasion.
