The constitution of a committee by Jammu and Kashmir High Court to probe into the allegations of Kashmir Bar Association that they were subjected to murderous attack by some Hindu fundamentalists, in connivance with the authorities in the Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu and the state police, when they had gone to visit the Kashmiri militants lodged in the jail, is welcomed. This will bring out the truth about the actual happening and whether any violence or even threat of physical harm to the lawyers from Kashmir was given by those who held a demonstration against the alleged over indulgence of KBA in the matter of inmates lodged in jail for indulging in acts of subversion and sabotage or detained for apprehended any such action on their part.
In keeping with the style and machination of Kashmiri secessionists, the members of Kashmir Bar Association, being not only sympathetic and friendly to the terrorists and secessionists, but active accomplices in their anti national activities, the secessionists in Kashmir miss no opportunity of India bashing. Making mountain of mole hill and blowing any happening which is unpalatable to the secessionists in any part of the country, out of all proportion, the secessionists of all hue and colour in Kashmir use the same to further their anti India and secessionist campaign. While they believe it to be their fundamental right to indulge uninterrupted and unaccounted for in anti national activities, including openly challenging the finality of J&K's accession to India and even demonstrating their sympathy towards the dictatorial regime in Pakistan and taking side with that country in their any dispute with India and always blaming India for any of their ills, the secessionist outfits cannot tolerate even a peaceful demonstration in Jammu or in any part of the country against their uncalled for acts, including eulogizing the hardcore terrorists and honouring them.
The Shiv Sena, who had held demonstration against a deputation of Kashmir Bar Association who visited Kot Bhalwal jail, with due permission of the court, to personally see the condition of Kashmiri militants lodged there who are allegedly maltreated and harassed by the jail authorities, claim that their demonstration was quite peaceful. They however counter charge the KBA of manipulating to smuggle inside the jail certain items which are against the code of jail manual and are prohibited. These include drugs, some luxury items and even sumptuous food as well as cash distributed among the inmates, which is collected from some anti national elements within the country as well as from foreign sources. They also charge the KBA of being hand in glove with the terrorists and providing them logistic support, including Hawala money. All these aspects need be thoroughly probed, along with the facts about the happening on the said day, which the KBA alleges as a murderous attack on them, in which the jail authorities and the police were in connivance with the alleged assaulters.
As far the allegation of Kashmiri inmates lodged in Kot Bhalwal and other jails in the country being denied basic facilities, there are counter allegations that they are being accorded VIP treatment with all the facilities and daily food served to them being more costly than what an average person in the state or in the country can afford.
Ever since the incident, the lawyers in Srinagar and some other parts of valley are observing strike in the courts, with good deal on inconvenience and hardships to the litigants. All these are stated to be machinations on the part of pro secessionist and terrorists friendly Kashmir Bar Association to keep the part of hate India campaign boiling. This has provided an opportunity to the hardcore secessionist and Islamic fundamentalist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani to cry wolf and assert that the events of 1947, when allegedly a large number of Muslims were massacred in Jammu, will not be allowed to repeat. Thus Geelani has sought to give the incident a communal colouring to rouse communal passions in the state which has secularism as its hallmark with perfect communal amity prevailing here, particularly in Jammu region. The so called moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference too has not resisted the temptation to cry foul and raise alarm over the incident. Even the media, particularly the print media in Kashmir has also given its judgment against the demonstrators and described the KBA members as victims of Hindu extremism in Jammu.
It will be pertinent to mention here that the KBA had even sought to avail of the notorious sex scam in Kashmir that surfaced about two years ago, for India bashing and giving impetus to the anti India campaign in the valley. While they gave call for total boycott by Kashmir lawyers to appear in defense of any accused, they also held strong protest against any lawyer from Jammu or from any other part of the country appearing in defense of the accused, with some Jammu lawyers manhandled, roughed up and subjected to threats, obstructing their appearance in the court to defend their accused clients. |
