| Top LeT commander, 4 cops, killed in encounter | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Mar 23 After a long lull, a fierce gun battle between militants and security forces took place on Sunday on the outskirts of summer Capital of Jammu and Kashmir in which one LeT Divisional commander and four security cops were killed and two others were injured seriously. Police sources said that in reaction to a tip off about presence of militants in the house of Mohammed Ayoub Bhat, S/o Gani Bhat, Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed towards the village Dangerpora, Telbal area about 15 kms from here, during wee hours today. As the security forces were laying cordon in the village, they came under heavy fire from holed up militants, resulting in the death of three policemen and a CRPF personnel, Police, sources said. Police sources further said that one foreign militant belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba was also killed. The slain militant identified as Abu Faisal was responsible for militant activities in Kangan Ganderbal area including a grenade attack at Sonamarg and firing on Army convoy at Kangan and had lately been moved to Srinagar to boost up the militant activities in area. He was wanted in a number of militancy related activities and his killing comes as a major blow to the outfit, police said. The deceased Policemen have been identified as SGC Bashir Ahmed, R/O Beerwah Budgam, Constable Irshad Ahmed IRP 10th Bn R/O Khan Sahib Budgam, Constable Mohammed Kabir IRP 10th Bn, R/O Domail Udhampur and Constable Sham Singh of 122 Bn CRPF. The injured Policemen are Sub-Inspector Umesh Thakur and Constable Mushtaq Ahmed. |
