| Bhaskar Rao Sammelan concludes on melodious notes | | | Chandigarh | Mar 25 The 38th All India Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan held here was organized by the Pracheen Kala Kendra for the last 37 years uninterruptedly, it has been hailed as one of the oldest music dance festivals in this part of the country. Numerous cultural institutions of Jammu and Kashmir including Nami Dogri Sanstha-the Art foundation and their office bearers Dogra congratulated the ML Koser, the moving force behind the activities of the Kendra for holding such a wonderful event, successfully. On March 14, the programme got off to a majestic start with Hari Charan Verma’s vocal recital. His presentation of Raga Bihag was beautiful and the slow fast combinations were melodious of the best mishmash. The Bada Khayal composition in Ek Tall Veni Gonth Kaha Kou Jane was followed by Drut Bandish in teen tall piya pyari ajj hori khelat. Dr. Verma invested the Raga delineation with a special turn of phase, the nuance the repeated from time to time as if it were refrain. The aim was to leave the Raga with distinct mark. He presented old and authentic composition of Swami Haridass, guru of Tansen. Purity of pith and the mallow Akbar adopted by Dr. Verma had majestic sweeps and expensiveness. After Bihag, the presented a composition of sadarang in raga Nayaki Kanarah set to Madhya Laya, teen taal habe darbar dhayaon which again proved his mastery over layakari and damdaar taan. He concluded his recital with Braj Ki Hori Bind Jayage nainan mein, dagar mori charo shyam. Which create a divine atmosphere of hori of Mathura and vrindavan, casting a magical spell on listeners. He was accompanied by leading harmonium and organ palyer jayram potdar, Sudhir Pandey on the table while support on Taanpura was provided by Taposi and Pushpita Sen. Renowned and experienced exponent of Swapnasundar’s caliber performs Kuchipudi, is always a treat to watch. After Dr. Verma, she took the centre stage to prove her dexterity in this classical form of dance, what made her performance memorable was the rare inducement seen. She has the credit of being the youngest Kudhipudi dancer who received the conveted Padma Bhushan award in 2003. Swapnasundari brings an individual verve and vivacity to her performance. Swapnasundari opened her recital with ceremonial to lord venkateswara (Balaji) of Tirupati followed by Jathi Swaran. She also presented Meenakshi Shabdam, a narrative dance describing the attempts made by goddess Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, to win the love of Lord Shiva who is in Tapasya. The piece was set in Raga Athana (Adi Talam). |
