| Workshop on ‘Trans Himalayan Tourism- Issues & Perspectives’ concludes | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 25 Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak has said that the State government was keen to explore new tourist potential places across the state including in Jammu region for attracting global tourists. Addressing the valedictory function of 2-day workshop on Trans Himalayan Tourism- Issues & Perspective under the aegis of UGC Special Assistance Programme (SAP) organized by the Business School, University of Jammu, Minister listed the measures being taken for upgrading the facilities at tourists' destinations. He said provision for better road connectivity, besides making available better lodging facilities are being prioritized both at new and already famous places. He further said to tap the tourism potential, over a dozen new tourist development authorities have been set up in various areas of the state with ample funds put at their disposal to develop the areas at par with developed tourist destinations. He said development of 50 tourist villages is another step taken to expand the benefits of tourism industry out of the suburbs of traditional tourist spots. Stressing the need for adopting professional approach to tap maximum benefits of the vital industry, Minister said development of human resource is another field which is getting focused attention of the government. He said to have professional human resource; the subjects having scope in the field of tourism industry have been introduced in the twin universities of Jammu and Srinagar. He said the government is also contemplating to make available such subjects at Higher Secondary and College levels. Earlier, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra in her welcome address focused upon the bridging gap of demand and supply of the competent and professional resources. Dean Academics of University of Jammu, Prof. B. P. Sehgal. Coordinator SAP Prof. Ashok Aima and Director CHTM Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta also addressed the workshop. Prof. Versha Mehta concluded the workshop and presented the vote of thanks. |
