Jora inaugurates Buyer-Seller Meet at Bari-Brahamna

Asserting that Buyer-Seller Meet provides a platform to producers and consumers for promotion of mutual business interest Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that such Meet facilitate purchase of locally manufactured items by other industry units- bulk consumers- who otherwise import materials from outside states.
The Minister was addressing a large gathering at a function held at Bar-Brahamna today. The function was jointly organized by Directorate of Industries & Commerce Jammu and Federation of Industries Jammu.
As many as, 86 industrial units from Jammu division installed and displayed their products during the Meet.
Jora said that in order to lend marketing support to the local industrial units, the Department of Industries & Commerce has been holding industrial and handicraft exhibition on regular basis adding that 32nd Industrial & handicraft exhibition held in the exhibition ground Jammu in November 2007 was a resounding success. He said that this Buyer-Seller Meet being held after a gap of 10 years would help to promote better understanding between major buying organizations of the Central Government and local industrial units.
The Minister said that the Meet would also provide opportunity to the local industrial entrepreneurs to showcase their products besides facilitating on the spot business deals. Likewise, it also helps ancillary units to exhibit their products and interact with the bulk consumers and promote business alliance between small, medium and large-scale industries.
Jora said that the government was committed to take Industry on the path of progress and prosperity adding that industrial sector in the state is making progress. He said that 11 industrial units by Directorate of Industries & Commerce, four each by J&K SIDCO and SICOP are being managed in Jammu division. He said that three organizations covering 18167 kanals of land under industrial estates. In addition, 1457 kanals at Ghati, 980 kanals at Govindsar in Kathua district and 2823 kanals of land is being acquired for phase-III of IGC Samba besides a proposal of 200 kanals of forest land for expansion of existing industrial estates at Bari-Brahamna has been made.
Giving details, the Minister said that 2730 units have been registered under small-scale industry sector in Jammu division with an investment of Rs 662 crore up to ending February 2008 employment generation for 19274 persons. He said that Rs 48 crore have been distributed to 2265 units under state package and Rs 18 crore have been sanctioned to 272 units under Central package. Rs 9.90 crore have been sanctioned as interest subsidy to 108 units during last seven months.
Earlier, the Minister went round the stalls put up at the Meet and interacted with the people.
