| SRTC employees working round the clock to make its fleet fully functional | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 25 Even after having called off their month long strike by the employees of the SRTC, it may more than a week’s time to make the entire fleet of the corporation road worthy. The employees are working round the clock to make corporation’s fleet fully functional. Senior officials of the Corporation on Tuesday claimed that large number of vehicles was found to be road worthy and the operations were launched immediately after the strike was called off. "Today afternoon, we started our Inter- State services as per the schedule and by Wednesday we hope to run to our full capacity despite shortfalls, SRTC officials said. GM SRTC SS Jamwal said, ‘after inspection we found that majority of load carriers/trucks deployed for transporting food grains to different district headquarters were road worthy and were deployed without any delay’. ‘We plan to start services on Srinagar and other routes from Wednesday as workshops are working round the clock to put the house in order’. On the other hand, SRTC employees in the workshop were found struggling and working hard to clear the back log and make the rickety fleet road worthy. “RIMs of large number of buses were disturbed besides tyres were deflated. We could not move vehicles because tyres were deflated and the whole drill consumed lot of time. The rough estimate suggests that it may take four to five days time to make the entire fleet road worthy, Pawan Sharma, spokesman of the SRTC employees union said. It may be mentioned since February 19, 2008 the entire fleet barring few buses was grounded and on Tuesday when employees resumed their duties they were not surprised to register the fact that over 90 per cent of the SRTC fleet was not fit for road operations. “We have joined our duties now and we will work hard to make our buses and other transport vehicles road worthy at the earliest to avoid further damage to the Corporation”, employees working in the Corporation Workshop said. |
