‘Mini J&K’ reverberates with musical notes

A celebration of a unity in diversity called Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium today reverberated with musical notes as music lovers gathered to mark first anniversary of the architectural marvel and reflection of rich culture.
On its first anniversary, the General Zorawar Singh auditorium of the University of Jammu once again reiterated its presence as mini Jammu and Kashmir encompassed in a single building which narrates the cultural story of entire state.
What could have been appropriate way of celebrating the first anniversary of Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, named after the great warrior and Dogra pride, than to have hosted the flute recital by the Living Legend of the Indian Classical Flute. 'For a moment, a feeling of Vrindawan was in the air', an apt comment by Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha reflected the mood of General Zorawar Singh Auditorium this evening, on the accomplishment of a scintillating performance by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
The flawless rendering on flute took off with Raag Madhuvanti that carried the listeners to celestial heights. Then he went on with his famous chants that are considered as auspicious during evenings. So engrossed was the classical music maestro that he said, time seems to have been stopped while performing in the Duggar land that is the birth place of his elder brother, yet another artist of repute, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
The Governor lauded the performance and congratulated Panditji for his classical Hindustani renderings. "This was a blend of honey and fragrance', he observed and said this is a great movement to have the great artist amid Jammu audience.
Lady Governor, Mrs Premini Sinha, Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr Janak Raj Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Professor Amitabh Mattoo, his wife, Director General of Police, Mr Kuldeep Khoda were among the galaxy of music lovers present on the occasion. The celebrations would be spread till 28th of this month.
About the Auditorium, the university communiqué says, the University of Jammu sees itself as becoming a vibrant international hub of artistic and cultural activities that would benefit from and strengthen the finest pluralistic traditions of the country, the region and its civil society. The General Zorawar Singh Auditorium is a realization of the vision of the Chancellor, Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha and Vice Chancellor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo. The complex with its state of art auditorium, heritage museum and art gallery is a celebration of the symbolic relationship of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and showcases the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the State. The magnificent high tech facility provides a perfect blend of creative, artistic and academic ambience to showcase the University of Jammu as a true centre of holistic education.
The auditorium complex is one of the first of its kind in North India. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that this four storied auditorium complex includes a high-tech auditorium with a capacity of more than 1500 in two halls, with separate stage for each, of a capacity of 1000 and 500. Art Gallery, photo gallery, exhibition halls, heritage museum, conference halls, TV studio, FM Radio Station, media centre, children's art studio and a cafeteria with a Parisian ambience.
General Sinha honoured the artists on the occasion while the programme started with lighting of lamp by the Governor and the Vice Chancellor among others.
