| Aggrieved Anganwari workers stage sit-in demonstration | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 27 To press their long pending demands, Anganwari Workers Welfare Association (AWWA) today staged a sit-in, demonstration and later took out a protest rally. Hundreds of AWWA early assembled here on Thursday at Mubarak Mandi complex and staged a sit-in in front of the Divisional commissioners office to lodge their protest against the state government attitude towards the Anganwari workers and helpers. After they held a strong demonstration in front of Div. Com. Office and handed over a memorandum to Chief Minister through Divisional Commissioner listing various demands of the Anganwari workers and helpers. They were demanding hike in salaries from Rs.1300 to Rs.500 for Anganwari workers and Rs.600 to Rs. 300 for helpers besides seeking employment status as par with other government employees of the state. They were also blaming government for withholding of salary, payment of bills under integrated child development scheme (ICDS) projects, travel allowances, carrier charges, rent of centers, teaching allowances and nutrition charges. The president of the association Swarna Choudhary while addressing protestants were demanding immediate redressal of their long pending demands and warned government for its further dilly-dallying tactics. Others addressing on the protestants were Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh president Lakshman Ravinder, Koushallya Devi, Ashok Choudhary, Swaran Kanta, Naresh Bala, Soma Devi and Passano Devi. These aggrieved Protestants later took out a protest rally through different parts of the city and later peacefully disperse at city chowk. |
