| Governor urged to prevent visit to Amarnath cave before commencement of yatra | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 27 Urging the Governor Lt Gen Retd SK Sinha, who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to prevent anyone, including highly influential people, from visiting the cave prior to the official announcement of the yatra, Shri Amarnath Yatra Welfare Organization has said this step would check any incident of tampering with the holy ice lingam. It also demanded that instead of installing artificial cooling system for preventing ice lingam from melting, the Shrine Board should initiate steps for checking any tampering with the ice lingam. It wanted the Shrine Board to curtail the number of helicopter sorties for carrying pilgrims to the holy cave and the helipad be constructed at least one km away from the cave. Suggesting another important step which should be taken in the larger interest of the pilgrims, the welfare organization has demanded abolishing of Rs.25000 being charges in advance for organizing langars. The Organization in its memorandum expressed dismay over the way the Shrine Board authorities paid no heed to several demands that had been put forward by the organization during the meeting with the Chief Executive officer Shrine Board held on February 9, 2008. Rajinder Sharma, President of the organization said today that the Shrine Board should fix the schedule for the annual Yatra at least three months in advance so that pilgrims, interested to visit the holy cave, could book their train tickets. He said some NGOs had been issued permission for running langars but they have not been informed about the commencement of the yatra. |
