Amit (name changed) today went to RBI to draw some payment and while counting the notes he found a Rs.1000 note half cut and pleaded for its replacement. He got stunt on the refusal of the cashier to replace the note. Finding no alternative, he dared to meet one of the senior officials of the Bank and requested for replacement of the note. Surprisingly, the official concerned asked him to either accept Rs.500 against Rs.1000 note or leave the bank. Narrating the incident to EARLY TIMES, Amit lamented the Bank administration for putting him to unnecessary loss without any reason. If such an attitude of the bank authorities, especially the RBI, is allowed to continue, it is feared that people would think twice before making deposits in the banks, he said and called for strict action against the officials for refusing replacement of the half cut note drawn from the bank itself. |
