| Government orders inquiry to establish responsibility | | ‘One yr Leopard cub in police lockup’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 29 It may sound incredible but is a fact that a Leopard cub, in iron chains, has landed up in the police lock up. The cub has suffered several wounds on its body and has been shifted to Manda Deer Park in Jammu. Taking strong notice of the incident, the Government has ordered an inquiry which would be conducted by the experts of the Wildlife Department to establish responsibility for those having kept one year old leopard cub in chains in police lockup in Rajouri. According to Chief Wlid Life Warden, N.A .Kichloo, keeping a leopard cub in iron chains in police lock was against the law. He said that if the leopard cub had caused scare to people in village Pangai in Thanamandi area of Rajouri, the police should have sought help from the wildlife department so that the cub could be administered some tranquilizer and taken to the sanctuary. Reports said that when people were gripped by scare while seeing the leopard cub roaming they informed the police. The police chained the cub and fastened its iron chains to its paws and neck and dragged to the police lockup where it was kept for a number of days. When the report reached wildlife experts they rushed to the police lockup and after administering tranquilizer they took him to the Manda Deer Park in Jammu. On examination, the experts found wounds have being inflicted by iron chains on the neck and paws of the cub. The cub is under treatment in the sanctuary. Kichloo said that though the cub was recovering, it was under shock. He said that it has not been able to walk around because its right paw has been paining because of the wound. He said that keeping a cub in iron chains is against the laws adding that after the inquiry is completed, the report would be submitted to the Government. |
