| Poonch-Jammu districts in state hockey final | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 29 Making it into the final after a long time, the improved side of district Poonch will be playing against Jammu district in the final of State Hockey Championship organized by Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA) at K K Hakhu Stadium here tomorrow. While Poonch boys trounced district Baramulla by three goals to one, Jammu managed a victory fighting Kathua district 8-7 only through tie-breaker in the semi-finals. The final has been scheduled for tomorrow at 4 pm. The young side of Poonch, who usually practice on grassy fields, is now aiming at becoming the state champion. “The boys are confident enough to take on Jammu district tomorrow in the final. In fact, the ongoing day-boarding scheme of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at the town has helped improve the game. Started only in November last, the scheme has helped the boys reach final of the state championship,” said SAI hockey coach accompanying the team, Sham Lal Sharma. He added that the present team is comprised of eight boys from day-boarding scheme in the age group of 14-17 years. Earlier, in the Jammu-Kathua semi-final, the rural team fought neck to neck throughout ending the game in a 3-3 draw in the stipulated time.
