Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 29 The 8th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) clinched the men’s overall championship trophy securing highest points in the six-day long Inter-Battalion Sports Meet of Armed Police which came to an end with the holding of a well attended valedictory function at Police Stadium, here today. In women’s section, the overall championship trophy has been retained by the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 2nd battalion, courtesy, constable Simi Sharma, who was instrumental in providing an edge to her battalion over nearest rival JKAP 12th battalion through her five gold haul in athletics. For her exceptional performance, Simi was declared best athlete. Constable Tahir Ahmed of JKAP 13th bn emerged fastest man secured gold in the 100 meters race clocking in 12.53 seconds. Ct. Raghubir Singh of JKAP 8th (12.54 seconds) and Ct. Arshid Hussain of IRP 10th (12.55 seconds) finished second and third respectively. In men’s Tug of War final, played today, JKAP 13th Bn defeated IRP 4th. Reyaz Ahmed of IRP 5th was adjudged best athlete. Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda was chief guest in the valedictory function of the Sports Meet. In his address to the participants and other distinguished gathering, DGP said that it was encouraging to see that talent is coming up in a big way from all the battalions for which the credit goes to the concerned Commandants, who are putting in extra efforts to boost sports among different ranks. “Sports help work together and togetherness improves efficiency and productively. Sports also brings different ranks of the officers together on a common platform and assists develop spirit of togetherness,” said Kuldeep Khoda pointing at the participating battalions. He praised the IGP and DIG of Armed Police as also Sports Officer (Headquarters), Dr Narinder Bhatial and Sports Officer (Outdoor), MA Qureshi for making the event a success. Earlier, Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police, AG Mir welcomed the chief guest and other senior officials. He informed that around 100 teams from 22 different battalions of the Armed Police took part in the six-day long Sports Meet.
