| Mumbai blasts suspects to undergo scientific tests: Court | | | Mumbai, Aug 28: All suspected men, arrested in connection with the July 11 serial blasts here, are to be subjected to scientific tests including narco-analysis and brain mapping to probe their involvement in the explosions, a local court said here today.
Earlier, Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy said investigators are confident that those arrested are part of separate LeT modules and want to know whether they are involved in the serial blasts or if they know of any other module that may have been involved in the blasts.
With a limited time for police custody at their disposal, the Anti-Terrorism Squad wants to interrogate the suspects as quickly as possible and get details on the planning and execution of the blasts that killed 200 people and injured over 600, police sources said.
Scientific methods of investigation like lie-detector and brain mapping tests can be used as evidence, other tests like narco-analysis help collect valuable information, the sources said.
Since not many forensic laboratories have testing facilities, the ATS will also have to take prior appointment at Forensic Science Laboratories that perform the tests, the sources said.
Ghulam Baig, Abdul Haq sent to police custody till September 07
A Mumbai court on Monday sent two alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) activists Ghulam Baig and Abdul Haq to police custody till September 07. The anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested the two from the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
With this, the number of people arrested in connection with the blasts have gone up to 21. While nine were booked for unlawful activities, the remaining were arrested for transporting, planting and exploding bombs in local trains which killed 200 commuters.
They were arrested following the confessional statement of arrested al-Badr divisional commander Tohfeen Akmal Hashmi about LeT militants involvement in the Mumbai blasts.
The Mumbai Police took the custody of the duo after the disclosures made by Hasmi, who was arrested by the Army from Nadimarg in south Kashmir last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai ATS teams are now concentrating on finding the source of the RDX which was brought from South India via Kandla port in Gujarat. Investigations have revealed that at least 55 to 60 kg of RDX had landed in Maharashtra, out of which the ATS in May this year seized 43 kg of RDX, AK-47 and hand grenades. Sixteen people were arrested in this regard.
The police said that the RDX used in the 7/11 blast may be part of the same consignment.
