| Massive plantation in Manasbal | | New variety of Poplar tree introduced in J&K: Qazi | | Ganderbal | Mar 30 Minister for Forest and Environment, Qazi Mohammad Afzal has asked the officers of Social Forestry Department to formulate a comprehensive project for mass plantation for bounding areas of Manasbal and its adjacent areas and submit the same to the government soon so that the project could take off well in time. He said that with the afforestation of the area the landscape would become captivating for visitors owing to its beauty and scenic nature. He said this will also help to make the surrounding area eco-friendly and pollution free besides attraction for the tourists. The Minister was addressing a function organized by the Social Forestry department in collaboration with Manasbal Development Authority in connection with plantation day held at Manasbal today. Qazi Afzal planted various saplings in Manasbal. The Minister stressed for preservation, conservation and protection of magnetic attraction of various tourist spots, lovable meadows, springs, hidden source of water, evergreen forests, bio-diversity of wildlife and fauna and flora of the state. He said this is possible only when we are able to preserve the pristine glory of our forests and try to cover all degraded forest areas, roads, banks of streams and rivers, land available in schools, colleges, universities and other institutions and community areas with tree plantation. He called upon the nature lovers to extend their cooperation to the government in its endeavour to protect green wealth. The Minister exhorted for launching a sustained campaign to educate people about the importance of forests and afforestation. He appealed the people especially the youth and school children, employees of social forestry and forest department to cover more and more area under tree plantation in the state so that forest produce is increased manifold for better future of the state. Qazi Afzal said that Social Forestry department has introduced new varieties of poplar in Kashmir aimed at increasing productivity of poplar crop which shall result in better yield and good remuneration to the growers. Secretary, Tourism Nayeem Akhter and District Development Commissioner, G.N. Bodha also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements made under tourism sector in Ganderbal district. |
