| Jammu district lifts State Hockey Championship | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 30 Jammu today clinched the State Hockey Championship beating Poonch district by a big margin of 7-1 in the final which was played today at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. Leading by three goals in the first half of the play, Jammu boys completely dominated the turf after the breather too adding four more goals. Jagjit Singh scored the first blood in the 5th minute through a penalty stroke awarded in their favour after Poonch defender created a deliberate obstacle. Two more goals were added by Prabhjot Singh in the 17th and 28th minute guiding the team to take an unbeatable lead in the first half. Later, in the second half, Prabhot Singh added his third goal in the 41st minute. Mandeep Singh (33rd), Karanjeet Singh (39th) and Gurpratap Singh (45th) were other scorers. From Poonch, Amandeep Singh (junior) reduced the margin in the 40th minute. In the final and prize distribution function, SSP Airport, Raghubir Singh was chief guest. Speaking to the finalist teams of Jammu and Poonch districts, Singh complimented the teams for their fighting spirit. He had special word of praise for the Poonch district boys who made it into the final after a long gap. Meanwhile, according to resident secretary Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA), PD Singh the final of the Ashwani Kapoor Memorial Tournament between Khalsa Club and Singh Club Bandurakh shall take place tomorrow at K K Hakhu Stadium at 4 pm. Final will be followed by the prize distribution function of both Ashwani Kapoor and State Heros Hockey Tournament, he added. |
