Jammu fest to stretch across region

Amidst voices of discord from various artists and theater groups, the fortnight long Jammu festival is all set to take off opening new vistas of cultural reflection at the micro level across Jammu region.
The unique feature of this year’s festival is that stretches across to the entire region and is not confined merely to walled winter capital city. The festival is being held at all district headquarters and other smaller townships to offer a sense of cultural inclusiveness.
“The main endeavor of the festival is to divert the Vaishnodevi Yatri’s to other tourist destinations in the state and also to project Jammu Region as a tourist destination with multiple tourist attractions”, said Sudhanshu Pandey, the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu who also the chairman of the festival committee. He said, while as apart from creating basic infrastructure at various locations, the department has been organizing various events amongst which, a major event is the Jammu Festival being organized to promote cultural tourism in the state and publicize various tourism destinations in Jammu.
Addressing a press conference here today, Pandey said that a Car Rally called the “ Rally of Lakes” will be held from Shimla to Jammu, which will provide exposure to the Lakes of the region and will also touch most of the popular and potential tourist spots. Apart from prominent lakes of Jammu division, the car rally will pass through Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Rajouri and will culminate at Suchetgarh to give fillup to tourism in this border belt of the state.
Besides, as part of the cultural bonanza, Sonu Nigam, Anoop Jalota, Bhajan Sopori and a host of other artists are expected to perform in various events of the festival. He said that over 30 government departments and agencies are collaborating to make the Festival a success. He added that it is also the endeavor of the Steering Committee to involve the travel trade, NGOs and other private bodies and organizations to take ownership of various events and activities in the Festival and to also encourage sponsorship of specific events by the corporate sector.
The Festival will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on April 1, with a Multi Media Lazer show and Fire Works at Fish Aquarium, Bahu Fort which is going to be held for the first time in the state.
For the first time, the forts in Samba, Bhadarwah and Rajouri will be illuminated. Besides this year the festival procession will be clubbed with religious ceremony of Ram Navmi.
