Srinagar | Mar 31
At least 11 activists of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement were detained for holding a demonstration in violation of prohibitory orders here today.
Led by its chief Fareeda Behanji, dozens of party activists assembled at Abi Guzar in the city and started marching in a procession shouting slogans in support of their demand for knowing the whereabouts of those allegedly missing in the custody of state security forces.
The separatist group is affiliated with hard line faction of Hurriyat Conference.
When the procession reached near the Tourist Reception Centre en route to the local office of the United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan, police swung into action and asked them to disperse.
When they refused, police resorted to mild baton charge and took Behanji and 10 other party activists into preventive custody. They have been lodged at Kothibagh police station.
