Poonch, Dec 4: Sixteen people sustained injuries in clashes at a polling booth in Sakhi Maidan area of Mendhar where the Panchayat polls were held today while as 124-year-old man cast his vote with enthusiasm, sources said.
They said a group of people had a verbal dual at polling booth Sakhi Maidan which turned aggressive and with in no time clashes broke out and as a result 16 people sustained injuries. Among injured three people who were critically injured where indentified as Amjad Bashir and Wajid Bashir booth residents of Sakhi Maidan and in other incident Mohd Sadiq of Kreeri were admitted in district hospital Poonch for specialized treatment. Sources said the clashes broke up after a group of persons started pelting stones on the other group of people which led to clashes in Sakhi Maidan, they added.
Civil administration immediately deployed the reinforcement to the spot and the situation was brought under control.
Meanwhile a 124 year old Haji Mohd Akbar resident of Ari plaser was brought to the polling station to cast his vote. He expressed pleasure while talking to Early Times that he feels proud while casting his vote even at this age. He braved the inclement weather and came here to exercise his frenchise at Polling station Ari.
