| ‘No peace in sub-continent without Kashmir solution’: Rather | | NC leader suggests Mufti not to shed crocodile tears | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Mar 31 Claiming that the State of Jammu and Kashmir was passing through a crucial phase of political and fiscal uncertainty, senior National Conference leader and leader of Opposition Abdul Rahim Rather has said ‘peace in the sub-continent was not possible without finding a long lasting solution to the Kashmir problem’. In a statement, issued here today, Rather said that any step taken towards resolving the Kashmir imbroglio was meaningless if the wishes and sentiments of general masses of the state were not taken into consideration. Without naming anyone, he said that some people were deliberately trying to create communal divide among the people of the state only to create hurdles in the peace process. Advocating the demand of autonomy, the former finance minister said ‘grant of internal self dependence to the state was mandatory as per the document of accession and Government of India is under obligation to empower the state government’. "The limited powers with the state government were one of the main reasons of political insatiability in the state and New Delhi has to consider the demand of National Conference which represents the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", he said adding, "Autonomy is imperative for the economic development, prosperity and unity of the state". The voice and demand of National Conference, he said, can not be suppressed by statements given by BJP leader L K Advani and PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who are two sides of the same coin. "History is witness to the fact that these people have always played with the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their own political gains". Coming down heavily upon the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Rather said, "It was he (Mufti) who as home minister of India empowered the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the state and now today he is shedding crocodile tears to gain sympathy of the people". The memory of people, he said, is not so short lived and his party would get a befitting reply in the ensuing assembly elections. |
