| Water, electricity remains distinct dream for many: Wani | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 31 Lambasting the anti-people policies adopted by the coalition government, senior National Conference leader Abdul Karim Wani has said that water and electricity supply has remained a distinct dream for many people living in far flung areas of the state. Addressing series of public meetings at Chilas, Chinyas, Badiyas, Belli and Batri areas of mountainous Doda district, Wani said that situation in the far off areas of the state was worse and people are living a miserable life. "I have been visiting these areas from last few days and what I have learnt is that the claims of the state government seem to be confined to the official files and media, while the people were even deprived off the basic amenities of life", he said. Central government, he said, was spending huge money to ensure road connectivity to the rural areas of the country but in Jammu and Kashmir the people still have to travel hundreds of miles on foot to get medical treatment and education to their children. He said, "While they (ruling alliance) keep on creating great hype about the huge funds pouring in from the centre, there is hardly any development visible on the ground". This, he said has not only come as a shock for the people but also pushed them to hopelessness and despair. The main reason behind this desperately 'poor performance' is the lack of cohesion and the divergent power centres within the coalition, Wani said adding that today a common man feels robbed of the expectations he had attached towards the government in the backdrop of huge funds the state received over the years from centre. Criticizing government for meting out step motherly attitude to these areas, the NC leader said that this is a rare example of discrimination within sub region and stands as a litmus test for the hollow claims of the coalition government of providing equal treatment to all irrespective of region. He said it becomes the moral duty of the government to act rationally and fix criteria, while sanctioning funds for developmental purposes. On this occasion several leaders from other political parties including Choudhary Hassan Din, Congress Sarpanch, Choudhary Liyaqat Ali (BJP), Haji Muhammad Abdullah and Sajad Ahmed Khan are reported to have joined National Conference. |
