Big 111 runs win for MCA XI in Cricket

The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Department XI registered a big 111 runs victory making it one-sided contest against Department of Education in Cricket in the ongoing Inter-Department Sports Meet of University of Jammu on the campus today.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, MCA Department set a big target of 205 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, Education Department could not chase and bowled out for 93 runs in 18.4 overs.
Gulshan was top scorer from MCA with 48-ball 60 runs studded with ten boundaries while Gurdeep Singh contributed 41 (off 32 balls, 5x4, 1x6). Abhishek and Munish contributed 25 and 18 runs respectively. From Education Department, Akhtar Hussain took two wickets and Ajit Kumar one.
Later, chasing a target of over 10 runs per over, Education Department were never in a winning mode after the side lost wickets on regular intervals to make an end to their innings in 18.4 overs at a score of 93.
Anil and Shering were main scorers with 34 and 14 runs in their respective accounts. Farooq, Munish and Anju shared two wickets each from MCA XI.
BADMINTON: Department of Law and Law School won the opening day matches to consolidate their position. In the first match, Department of Law beat Department of English 2-0. Jyoti Sharma bt Neha Khosa 21-14, 21-11 and Surbhi Gupta bt Nazila Farhat 21-10, 21-12. In the second match, Law School trounced Department of Botany 2-1. Singles: Mehak Gupta lost to Reema Arora 21-16, 21-15; Preet Simran bt Heemali Kotwal 21-3, 21-4. Doubles: Mehak and Preet Simran outplayed the pair of Reema and Heemali 21-18, 18-21, 21-9.
CARROM: Department of Law and Law School again were the winners on day one of the tournament. The results: Law Department defeated Department of English 2-1. Singles: Jyoti bt Shruti Sharma and Sonia Sharma lost to Neha Khosa. Doubles: Jyoti and Sonia bt Neha and Shruti Sharma. Law School beat BPEd 2-1. Singles: Mehak Gupta bt Harvinder Kour and Preet Simran lost to Sunaina Sharma. Doubles: Mehak and Preet Simran bt Sunaina and Meenakshi Sharma.
