| Amarnath Shrine Board to discuss infrastructural development | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 1 Chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Governor (Retd) Lt Gen SK Sinha is scheduled to chair meeting of members of the shrine board in Jammu on April 3 for discussing measures required for ensuring comfortable journey to pilgrims during the ensuing annual Amarnath yatra.. Official sources said that during the meeting the board members will finalize the plan for developing the infrastructure needed on the 45 km long mountain track from Pahalgam to the holy cave. Under the plan, the Board will set up tented colonies and install prefabricated structures for the convenience of pilgrims. Another issue on the agenda related to the demands of those NGOs who have decided to set up langars for providing food to the pilgrims. While some philanthropists run free langars others charge nominal rates for the food items they serve. The Board will decide the places where these langars would be allowed to be set up not only between Pahalgam and the cave but on the national highway from Kathua to Qazigund. It may also decide on the demand that the NGOs should not be charged Rs.25000 in advance. Though it is not on the agenda the Board members may discuss the issue related to the period for the annual yatra. Whether it will stick to the two-month schedule or extend or reduce the peiod. The Board has not agreed to fix the yatra schedule in consultation with Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the holy mace, on the plea that he is not a member of the Board. |
