| Fruit & Vegetable preservation training course concludes | | Sonali present certificates to trainees | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 1 Principal Secretary to Government Agriculture Production Department Mrs Sonali Kumar presented certificates to 20 persons who had completed six months training course in the Art of Fruit and Vegetable Preservation at Fruit and Vegetable Craft Centre Chand Nagar Jammu. Director Horticulture Jammu Mr M S Qasba briefed the Principal Secretary that during the year 2007-08 more than 10 mt Fruit and Vegetable products were processed at the centre at nominal handling charges. Under the public canning scheme, people are coming at the centre with fruits and vegetables for getting the same processed into value added products at nominal handling charges. It was also disclosed that 211 Mobile Demonstrations were also conducted in Jammu district at different locations, where local ladies were imparted training for processing local fruits and vegetables. As many as 129 ladies were also imparted one month training in the fruit and vegetable preservation during this period. It was apprised that Fruit and Vegetable Craft Centre Chand Nagar Jammu is also conducting six months Job Oriented Training Course for unemployed educated youth. Under this programme 20 persons have been trained. With the collaboration of Rural Development Department, Horticulture Department trained 27 ladies under self-help group programme. Mrs Kumar also presented certificates to these trainees. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary stressed the women to be independent by learning varied skills and generate their own income. She said there is example scope in fruit and vegetable sector and such training programmes would help them become self-sufficient. She assured all possible assistance from the department at any level of their projects particularly marketing. Mrs Kumar suggested for further training cum awareness programmes for the trainees after one-year gap. She said refresher courses should be organized to clear doubts and sort out problems if any of these trained people. Besides, others Joint Director Horticulture, P O DRDA Mr Vikas Sharma and Chief Canning Instructor Mr A K Sharma were also present. |
