| Moungri to Maantalai trekking | | Heritage Trek Expedition to start from April 12 | | Early Times Reporter Udhampur | Apr 1 As a part of Jammu Festival-2008, the Youth Hostels Association of India, J&K State Branch in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, J&K Government and District Administration, Udhampur is organizing “ Heritage Trek” expedition through some of the most scenic and beautiful areas of the district from April 12, 2008. Over 30 trekkers including 10 to 15 from European countries and 20 trekkers hailing from various States of the country would take part in the trekking expedition who explore some unique heritage sites, green meadows and pastures, lofty mountains, thick Deodar forests and clear water springs enroute during their 7-days trek. The expedition would provide the trekkers a rare opportunity to touch the most beautiful route comprising of Krimchi, Moungri, Panchari, Natha-Top, Sanasar, Patnitop, Sudhmahadev and Maantalai with exposure to the rich heritage of J&K State. A meeting of Sub Committee comprising of senior district officers was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P. Kalandria to discuss the modalities for the smooth conduct of the event. Chairman, J&K Youth Hostel Association of India, J&K Unit, Mr. S.P. Verma, Project Director of the Expedition, Mr. K.K. Gandotra, Principal PG College, Udhampur, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dy. SP (DAR), District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Coordinator, NYK, senior district officers, prominent citizens, Secretary YHAI J&K Unit, Dr. Vikram Gulati, Surjeet Singh Manhas and Sunil Badyal were present in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that a rousing reception would be accorded to first batch of the expedition at Udhampur on April 12, 2008 besides a friendly 20-20 Cricket match would be played between the trekkers and locals at Mini-Stadium on April 13 as good will gesture. Threadbare discussions were held on various arrangements required for smooth conduct of the trekking expedition which include boarding, lodging, medicare, security, provision of local guides etc. For the entertainment of the trekkers, a cultural programme would also be organized at Udhampur on April 12. The Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur urged upon the officers, NGOs and prominent citizens to work in close coordination for making the event a grand success which would help in promotion of tourism in the district.. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Verma apprised that the expedition would continue for a month in which groups of trekkers comprising of 30 members each every week would take part. He further stated that the interested participants may approach to Secretary, YHAI, J&K State Branch c/o ZED Computer Centre, Sant Market Chand Nagar, Jammu. The first batch of trekkers would be flagged off for onward journey by the Deputy Commissioner from Udhampur on April 13, 2008. |
