Protecting life of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is becoming very touchy affair in the state. On Tuesday two elite groups of security-- Special security group (SSG)and special opeartions group(SOG) displayed just that at the venue of the inuagural function of the Jammu festival.
SSG men entrusted with the job of protecting Chief Minister asked SOG team at the Fish aquarium lawns in no uncleasr terms to swiftly move out of the venue along with their weapons.
The strict dictate was communicated to the head of the SOG team deployed at the venue minutes before the arrival of the Chief Minister.
The manner in which the directions were communicated by SSG infuriated SOG men present at the venue. SOG men had no choice but to leave the venue.
Later SOG men were deployed in and around the venue without weapons on the instructions of the SSG.Highly placed sources in SSG confirmed that the SOG men were asked to vacate the venue of the Jammu festival as it was the responsibility of the SSG men to protect Chief Minister.
Recently NSG Commandos were also roped in to strengthen the security apparatus around chief minsiter following inputs that militants were planning strikes against JK politicians including chief minister ahead of 2008 assembly polls.
It is not clear why SSG men asked SOG personnel to move out of the venue. It is also not clear whether SSG were suspecting presence of any mole among SOG men and wanted to ensure absence of SOG men inside the venue of the function with out weapons.
It may be mentioned that SOG men were present at the venue as part of routine drill to ensure incident free celebrations and were not directly responsible for protecting chief minister.
Significantly media persons presen at the venue to give coverage to the event were also not allowed by the SSG men to come near the chief minister to click his photographs and were kept at safe distance.
