| Court rejects bail of charas smuggler | | | Early Times Reporter

TADA/POTA/3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Mr. Sanjay Gupta rejected the bail application of Mohd Akram s/o Naseem Ahmed r/o Chanapura, Srinagar from whom 4.500 kg of charas was recovered and booked under NDPS Act and was in the custody from last two years.
While rejecting the bail application, 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, after hearing APP GS Charak, observed that on January 10, 2006 accused was found going towards railway platform having a bed on his head. When the police checked the bed in X-Ray Machine, the accused started running; police followed him and caught him. On search one envelope was found in which 4.500 kg of charas was found, the offence under NDPS Act and a case was registered. APP GS Charak filed objections in the bail application and stated that offence is heinous and in case applicant is convicted, he may be sentenced to imprisonment for 20 years and fine of Rs two lakhs. Court said that in these circumstances of the case, the present bail application is dismissed. JNF |
