| Cricket: Sociology, History Departments win ties | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 3 Department of Sociology and Department of History today qualified for the pre-quarterfinals stages of cricket winning their respective ties in the ongoing Inter-Department Sports Meet of the University of Jammu, here. In the first match of the day, Zaheer single handedly guided Department of History to a narrow three-run victory over Law School. First he made highest 62 runs and later clinched five wickets. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, History Department set a target of 173 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Law School put in best of their efforts to overhaul the total but fell short of three runs making 169 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Zaheer Iqbal was top scorer from History Department with 57-ball 62 runs including nine boundaries. Vikas and Satinder contributed 26 and 15 runs respectively. From Law School, Shashi and Sahil Bhalwal shared five wickets between them while Rameez took one. Batting second, Sami played excellent innings for Law School but could not lead the side to victory. Law School could make 169 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Sami made 45-ball 87 runs studded with three sixes and 11 boundaries. Shahnawaz added 30 runs. Zaheer was most successful bowler History Department with five for 39 in four overs while Taqdeer took two. In the second match of the day, Sociology Department trounced Department of Physics and Electronics by six wickets. Batting first, Physics and Electronics Department bowled out for 107 runs in 19.2 overs, which, in reply, Sociology Department chased in 15.2 overs for the loss of four wickets. Anil was top scorer from Physics and Electronics with 46 runs while Rajinder added 14 and Jatinder 17. From Sociology Department, Rahul, Naseer and Ashwani shared two wickets each. Later, Sociology Department chased the total for the loss of four wickets sparing 4.4 overs of their innings. Arun Baloria was top scorer with 34 runs including four sixes and two boundaries while Rahul and Ashwani contributed 27 and 15 runs respectively. Anil, Dhanvir and Rajinder took a piece each. |
