‘Says special status is against national interests; jeopardize people’s democratic rights’

Sharply reacting to the statement of the former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah that ‘those who are opposed to Article 370 are not the friends of the people of the state’ the former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta asserted that the facts are otherwise.
Taking advantage of this status certain leaders from Kashmir, with communal mindset, are misleading the people to generate secessionism and indulging in blackmailing the entire nation, he alleged.
Describing the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under ‘controversial Article 370’ of Indian Constitution, Prof Gupta said that it was not only against the national interests but also jeopardized the basic and democratic rights of the people of this state.
The BJP leader said as far as the interests of the people of the state are concerned, the present and erstwhile ruling leaders have been indulging in many wrongs and looting the hard earned money of the Indian exchequer through various tactics adding that the greatest disservice has been done to the people of the state by scuttling their democratic rights. He alleged that under the garb of this special status big fraud is being played with the people of Jammu region by denying them due representation in accordance with their voters strength adding that Gujjar Bakerwals and other such like communities in the state, who have been included in the list of Scheduled Tribes by the Centre way back in 1991, have not been granted their political reservation as this did not suit to certain communally diseased leaders of the National Conference, the Congress and the PDP.
‘Saying that elections were made mockery’, he added that even today the basic democracies including the Panchayats and local bodies have been kept out of the purview of the 73th and 74th Constitutional amendments. He said that all these bodies, including the dream ‘Panchayati Raj’, have been shattered under this so-called special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
