| Charak inaugurates Jammu festival at Samba | | Thousands throng Festival, Banks didn’t lag behind’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 2 Jammu Festival, which was hitherto limited to Jammu city alone, is for the first time being organized at all the district headquarters of Jammu region. The festival, the first of its kind in the newly created Samba district, evoked greater participation of the people who have appreciated this move of the government. A record crowd of over 8000 people thronged to witness the grand function which was inaugurated by the Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak. Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, MLA Samba Yashpaul Kundal, MLC Arvinder Singh, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, IGP Jammu and Presidents of the Municipal Committees were the guests of honour at the inaugural function. The stalls put up by various departments like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, sheep husbandry, DRDA, Education, SSA, Industries, KVIB, Handicrafts, Handloom, ICDS, Social Welfare, Forest, Health, Civil Defence, CADP and the Beopar Mandals, besides various small and medium scale industries like Berger Paints, Shalimar Cattle Feed, Bharat Box, Kochhar Batteries, Neel Kamal Industries were the main attraction of the festival. In addition, the ethnic food stalls with local dishes were put up jointly by the CADP and Anaganwari workers of ICDS Blocks. The grand cultural bonanza performed by the local Dogra artists, school children and anganwari workers was a major source of attraction for the visitors to the festival. The Banks did not lag behind and participated in the festival in a big way. SBI, JKB, PNB under the aegis of SBI Lead Bank Office Samba set up stalls highlighting the benefits of various schemes launched for economic transformation of the people. Publicity material relating to banking, government sponsored schemes on poverty alleviation, self employment schemes for educated unemployed youth, anywhere banking and financial inclusion program, besides the products of women self help groups linked with the banks were also put up for display at the festival. |
