| Hubby jailed for Captain’s suicide | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 2 Blaming the service conditions for stress among the women soldiers may have become too much clichéd as it can be the evil at home forcing the extreme step. Nine months after shocking suicide by a young woman officer of Indian Army, the Police have arrested her husband –also an officer of the same rank –for provoking her to end life. Captain Chaitanya Bhatawadekar who was arrested late Tuesday night in connection with the mysterious death of his wife captain Megha Razdan has now been remanded to six days judicial custody by the Court of Deputy Magistrate. Razdan was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in Kunjwani area, on the outskirts of Jammu, July 1, 2007. Her death sparked a controversy after a purported suicide note was recovered saying she was unhappy with her life and wanted to leave the army. The note, however, has said that her seniors were harassing her. The police said they suspected Captain Chaitanya was trying to escape investigation. They alleged he had cooked up a story of an assault on him and had refused to make a statement on the suicide of his wife. The police conducted narco-analysis on Captain Chaitanya. Following that, they have charged him with instigating his wife to commit suicide. Duty Magistrate Jammu Mohan Singh Parihar has granted six days police remand of accused Captain Chatanya Bhatwadekar. The accused captain was produced in the court in custody for seeking police remand. Court perused the remand application and the case dairy, the accused has been arrested on April 1, 2008 in the FIR No 34/2008. The accused has been medically examined and found physically fit. Advocates Sunil Sethi and Vishal Kapur appeared on behalf of the accused Captain and opposed the police remand of the accused on the ground that no reason have been given by the police for seeking police remand. On the Other hand Chief Prosecuting Officer MA Manhas with Senior Prosecuting Officer Jawaid Ahmed Khawaja appearing for the police submitted that investigation of the case is at the initial stage and for completing the investigation, the accused is required by the police for investigation. The Duty Magistrate while granting police remand of the accused observed that from the perusal of the case dairy it reveals that accused has been found allegedly involved in the commission of offence u/s 306/ 498-A RPC which are heinous offences and the investigation of the case is at initial stage. From perusal of the remand application also transpires that there is sufficient ground to remand the accused to the police custody. The accused is remanded to police custody for six days with the direction to produce accused after completion of the remand before the competent Magistrate. It is worthwhile to mention here police registered FIR No 34/2008 after about 9 months of death of Capt Mega Razdan. |
