| Azad for shortest gestation, quick execution of power, all other projects | | Central team calls on CM, reviews PM’s Reconstruction plan | | Srinagar, August 28– Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has appreciated the interest shown by Union Ministries for the massive Reconstruction in Jammu and Kashmir under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP). The Chief Minister was interacting with a high level central team headed by Mr. B. S. Balli, Secretary Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs that arrived here today from New Delhi to take stock of the progress made in execution of works under PMRP, BADP, creation of health infrastructure, road connectivity and launching of various mega and mini Hydro Electric Power (HEP) projects in the state. The team comprised of Joint Secretary Environment, Union Ministry of Forests, Mr. Verma, Director Kashmir, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Rajiv, Director Finance and other senior officers. The Chief Minister informed the team that execution of work on various projects has further been intensified after Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh took stock of all the ongoing projects under PMRP at a high level meeting during his visit on 24th and 25th May 2006 on the eve of 2nd Round Table Conference. Mr. Azad said that he has suggested the Prime Minister in that meeting that under PMRP maximum power projects taken up in the state have prolonged gestation period, therefore, in order to overcome the power shortage, special power projects with shortest gestation period should be sanctioned, which Prime Minister readily agreed in that meeting. He hoped that Union Power Ministry in collaboration with State Power Development Department will immediately identified such projects. He expressed satisfaction on speedy work on Mughal Road and widening of other major roads in the state. The team also took stock of the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan at a high level meeting held at SKICC here on Monday under the chairmanship of Union Secretary Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs Mr. B. S. Balli. A team of officers of Central Government including Joint Secretary Environment, Ministry of forestry, Director Kashmir Ministry of Home Affairs and Director Finance Ministry of Home Affairs also participated. The state was represented by Advisor to Chief Minister on Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan Mr. Vijay Bakaya, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phonsog, Financial Commissioners, Commissioner Secretaries and Secretaries of various departments. |
