| Fifth year: No exception to yatra debate | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 5 While announcing the schedule of Amarnath Yatra, the Governor had expressed regrets that the pilgrimage remained mired in unnecessary controversies for four years. Interestingly, even the fifth year is not coming as an exception. The religious leaders and activists having a stake in the yatra affairs have taken exception to the schedule finalization without consulting the estranged Mahant Dipender Giri. The Shri Amarnath Yatra welfare organization has questioned the “unilateral” announcement of the yatra calendar. Reacting to the announcement of date and period of yatra National President of the Shri Amarnath Yatra welfare organization Rajinder Kumar Sharma said,” the chairman of the shrine board has announced the yatra schedule unilaterally without consulting religious head Mahant Deepender Giri and several others. Sharma said we have requested Chairman of the shrine board to reconsider its decision within ten days and fix the fresh date of yatra after consulting religious head Mahant Deepender Giri. Sharma said for last three years the board authorities are unilaterally taking the decision which in our opinion is not a wide decision keeping in mind the sentiments of the lakhs of Shiv devotees. He said the annual pilgrimage begins in the month of Sawan and pilgrims prefer to undertake yatra during this period adding that a trend has been started in the recent past where we see presence of large number of tourists than devotees.Sharma said presence of large number of tourists near the cave shrine result in early melting of the shiv lingam the schedule should be readjusted after taking in account the suggestions of the religious gurus. |
