| ‘Third Front’ talk thins, Hakeem stakes claim in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 5 Despite bellicose talks of expelled Peoples Democratic Party leader Ghulam Hassan Mir upsetting his estranged parent party, the much claimed ‘Third Front’ is nowhere in sight taking any shape. Even well before his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party Mir had been talking high of the formation of Third Front. He had pegged all his claims on the back of Peoples Democratic Forum led by Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and CPIM leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami. He had also been pinning hopes on the independent legislator Usmab Majid and two dissident PDP leaders Ghulam Hassan Khan and Sarfaraz Khan. However, so far, Hakeem Yaseen, Tarigami and Usman have all remained non-committal on the Third Front. Even though these leaders are more or less willing to project a joint entity separate from the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party but there is no indication yet if they were ready to dissolve their own identities and work under the leadership of Mir. Thwarting Mir’s ambitions of having a Third Front with some heavy weight leaders, the Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen is instead trying to rejuvenate and organize his own party –Peoples Democratic Front. While Hakeem has been working hard in the Valley, he has sent across feelers that his party to ready to contest on many seats from Jammu province as well. To work out strategy for the Jammu province, Hakeem had a meeting of his party’s executive committee here today. After thorough deliberations with the party workers Hakeem announced that the Peoples Democratic Front would contest in ten Assembly segments of Jammu division during the ensuing the Assembly elections. He said his party is emerging very fast in the division and people associated with the party have expressed faith in the policies and programmes of the party. He stressed the executive committee members to redouble their service for propagating and nurturing party programmes in the Jammu division for the benefit of people in general. He said PDF would strengthen its rank and file for fighting anti-people elements and achieve the goal of lasting peace and economic welfare of the state. Hakeem said that lasting solution to the Kashmir issue could be arrived at tripartite talks only and urged to involve political leaders of different shades of openion in the dialogue process to resolve the vaxed Kashmir issue. He said dialogue is the only way to address issues and strive for peace in the sub-continent. Referring to the development scenario of the state, Hakeem Yaseen said that speedy and equitable development of all the regions Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh tops the agenda of the government. He said various projects and welfatre schemes launched in the state have been completed during past two years adding that the fruits of prosperity and development have now reached to even the remotest areas of the state. |
