| Religious fervour grips Jammu | | People throng temples on first Navratra | | Munish Gupta Jammu | Apr 6 On the first Navratra today temples in the city witnessed heavy rush as thousands of the devotees thronged them to perform pooja archana. The ancient Bahu Fort temple witnessed heavy rush today. On the occasion about 50 thousands devotees from different part of the Jammu region visited the temple and had glimpses of the deity installed in the temple. According to the volunteers at the temple, the devotees started coming to the temple at 2 am and remained standing in long queues while the main gates were opened at 4 am for the darshan. The rush of devotees continued throughout the day to pay their obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. To meet any exigency, special make-shift ISM and allopathic dispensaries were setup. Every incoming devotee was thoroughly frisked by the security personnel before entering the temple gate. A number of fruit and flower stalls were also put up there for the devotees. Before the dawn, thousands of devotees were seen lined up in the premises of the Bahu-Fort temple anxiously waiting for their turns for darshan of Kali Mata. Slogans in praise of Baway Wali Mata rented in the air after repeated intervals. Elaborate security arrangements were seen to be made in and around the holy shrine to avoid any untoward incident. The temple was well decorated with flags and buntings and langers and stalls of parshad were installed at various places. Beside police, activists of various social and religious organization were also seen assisting the management of temple in manning the arrangements. Rural people who came all the way from far-flung areas of the Jammu,Udhampur and Kathua were performing traditional ‘Sheeli-Poojana’ at Bahu temple. Thousands of devotees also visited Mahamaya temple -situated on the top of hills, and had darshan of Maa Kaali. As per the tradition, people in Jammu as elsewhere in the country also arranged special prayers within their homes and visited temples to mark the beginning of the Navratras. All the city temples were given a fascinating look and special prayers were held in the morning. Besides, offering prayers in the temples, people also arranged ‘Jagratas’ at their homes and other localities to celebrate the Navratras with religious fervor and gaiety. Bhajans and ‘shalokas’ airing the loud-speakers of the temples further surcharged the atmosphere with religious fervour. |
