Beware Mayawati!; Dr Satpal is going to rock your boat in Jammu and Kashmir. The rebel leader, who was shunted out of the party has now decided to float a new organization under the name of National Bahujan Party (NBP) to retain his constituency in the state. He was the popular face of the party in the state and has worked hard to build party's base.
The formal announcement will be made, according to Dr Sat Pal, in Jammu on April 14 at a public rally.
He said here today that one Shivender Malhotra, hailing from Domana near Jammu and settled as a businessman in Delh, will head the party at the national level. Asked whether the National Bahujan Party will forge an alliance with the Praja Parishad, dominated by political activists belonging to the upper castes Dr Sat Pal said "we plan to forge unity with like-minded people." He said "we will be in touch with Praja Parishad headed by Chander Mohan Sharma. Sharma confirmed that he was in touch with the leaders of Bahujan and in case the alliance did not materialize "we will field our candidates in at least 12 constituencies in the Jammu region."
Bruised by the way Dr Sat Pal and his colleagues were expelled from the BSP, over six months ago the NBP activists have been on their feet during the last four months for giving teeth to the new organisation not only for registering their presence in the poll battle but also for teaching a "lesson" to Mayawati loyalists, headed by Yash Pal Bhagat. Talks between the BSP led by Bhagat and Praja Parishad on forging an alliance between the two have not succeeded and instead has lured a group of some political activist belonging to the upper caste. However, Chander Mohan Sharma stated that by enrolling "some Brahmins of least consequences" the BSP cannot pose any threat to Praja Parishad. He said that if alliance with NBP materialised it could further weaken the BSP hold in its traditional pockets of influence. |
