Manjit inaugurates philosophers walk

As a part of Jammu festival, Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control S. Manjit Singh today inaugurated philosophers’ walks at Mahamaya city forest Jammu. The programme was organized by Tourism department in collaboration with Summer Land Tour and Travels to provide opportunity to have glimpses of the history of Jammu through the ages as seen from the Mahamaya forest.
The 15-days festival was organized to promote culture tourism and publicize various destinations in the division especially to attract more and more tourist and also exploit the most important tourist resorts during the festival.
The department of tourism is taking multifarious initiatives to give boost to tourism in the state. In its endeavour to extend stay of Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Yatri’s in Jammu and to other tourist destinations in the state apart from creating infrastructure at various locations, the department has been organzing various innovative activities. Besides evolving interest of the participants during the festival, the walk is expected to open up the Mahamaya forest area for such activities to be promoted by tour operators amongst the tourists throughout the year.
On the occasion, S. Manjit Singh said Mahamaya forest is a tourist spot with great potential, which needs to be developed and brought on the tourist circuit. The tour operators should include mahamaya forest area in its itinerary packages on a permanent basis. The participants were provided interesting facts about the history of various landmarks and ancient sites visible from there including Bahu Fort, Amar Palace, Hari Niwas, Mubarak Mandi, Jamavant cave (Peerkho) etc.
The Tourism Department Jammu also organized a quiz contest on the occasion wherein Director Tourism Mr.Ajay Khajuria distributed prizes among the topers, later.
