| SVO attaches property of another taunted official | | | Srinagar August 28– State Vigilance Organization today attached property of one Hafiz Rafiquee then Accounts Assistant of Finance Department. The property attached include two houses located at Government Housing Colony Ompora Budgam. The attachments have been made under the provisions of Section 8(B) of newly amended Prevention of Corruption Act. During investigation of case FIR No. 21/2001 under Section 5(2) PC Act, 2006, it that Rafiquee had raised assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Such assets include expensive electronic gadgets, furniture, luxury furnishing items, gold ornaments and huge assets of unmovable property was found land and house properties acquired and raised over a period of time. Other than the tainted properties that have been attached by the vigilance, he owns a well furnished two storey house in the name of his wife in which he and his family presently lives. This apart, Rafiquee has acquired two more plots in the same colony in Budgam. As per investigation, a large portion of his ill-gotten money came to be acquired during his posting as Accounts Assistant to Special Officer Auqaf. Rafiquee is separately facing trial in the court of Special Judge Anti-corruption Srinagar under FIR No. 149/98 P/S VOK, where he has been charged for misappropriating Auqaf funds. It is relevant to mention that Rafiquee was pre-maturely retired from government service by the government in December 2003. As per new provisions of law Rafiquee cannot sell, mortgage or alienate the attached properties in any manner. He also cannot enjoy the proceeds or benefit of such tainted property till completion of the judicial determination of the criminal cases of corruption against him. |
