Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Jan 4: The villagers from Damak in tehsil Ramnagar today held protest, demanding completion of construction work of 1460 meters canal at village Damak and release of the payments of the labourers.
A large number of people of the area assembled at Damak village, about 15 km from Ramnagar and started protest against Irrigation Sub Division Ramnagar and district administration Udhampur for the delay in the construction of canal.
Sarpanch Sandhoor Singh said that slow progress of work and non-payment of wages of laborers engaged in the construction of canal is a cause of grave concern for the people of the area.
He said the canal having total length of 1460 meters was sanctioned during 2010 and the work was started in 2011 by Irrigation Sub Division Ramnagar with the estimated cost of Rs 42 lakhs. But only 800 meters of canal is constructed by executing agency. The sub-standard work was carried out and it has been left half way adding that the technical staff was hardly seen at the site.
The villagers alleged that the matter was brought to the notice of Irrigation authorities at Udhampur and Ramnagar but no action has been taken in this regard.
The carelessness on part of the concerned agency can be gauged from the fact that cutting of land at many places has caused soil erosion and also damaged many houses besides the agriculture land also got damaged.
The locals urged upon the higher authorities to hold probe into the matter.
