Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 4: Amit Sharma, Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Jammu today chaired an important Price Consultative Committee Meeting regarding fixation of prices for milk and milk products in which heads of various associations such as Milk Producers and Gujjar Union, Halwai Association, Cheese and Milk Products Association, Joint Director Legal Metrology, Joint Director (Administration), Deputy Director Supplies, Assistant Director Enforcement, representatives of Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry departments, NGO representatives D.R Danish & S.K Gupta and others participated.
The Director was informed that proper survey along with sample-picking was conducted by joint teams of various stakeholders in the recent past to check the quality and price of milk being supplied in winter capital city Jammu and adjoining areas. The outcome and report of same were also shared with participants in the meeting.
He ensured that the views of all people are taken and several solutions emerged while talking with various stakeholders of associations of producers and consumers of milk products along with technical experts of the domain. It was concluded by the majority stakeholders that the prices of milk and milk products such as cheese, khoya, etc should remain same and status quo should not be disturbed in the present scenario. However, a review meeting regarding same shall be held soon to ensure that the producers and farmers don't suffer any losses in the long run.
The Director was very particular about the quality of milk and he emphatically told in the meeting that future pricing shall be directly proportional to the quality of milk and they shall go for fixing three different slabs as per the SNF and related factors. Other issues discussed included cost of production, removal of toll tax on cattle feed, demand for reducing SNF ratio by Cheese producers etc which shall be taken up with concerned departments separately for finding solution to them soon.
